Research talk with Professor Snyder and Professor Vegas

Hi all!

Come to the Chemia meeting this Wednesday, November 18th at 6pm in SCI 294 to listen to Professor Snyder talk about getting involved in undergraduate research on campus. Professor Vegas will also be taking the time to discuss the research that he is conducting in his research lab. This is a great opportunity to learn about how to get involved in research and to hear about research that is currently being done in the BU chemistry department, you won’t want to miss it!

Tutoring will be available from 7-8 pm in SCI 294 after our talk with Professor Snyder and Professor Vegas.

Chemia Halloween Party 2015!

Hey all!

Come to our Chemia Halloween Party this Thursday, October 29th in SCI 294 for food, drinks, and some awesome Halloween themed demos.

And don’t forget to stop by the Pumpkin Drop this Friday at noon to watch us make pumpkins ooze elephants toothpaste and the physics department drop pumpkins from the rooftop of SCI. You won’t want to miss it!

Welcome Back!

Hello all!

Welcome back.

Tutoring sessions take place at the following days and times for the fall 2015 semester:

Wednesday 6-8 pm in SCI 294
Thursdays 6-8 pm in SCI 294

During these times, there will be tutors available for both General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry. Feel free to come by for all or any part of the time on these days. Come with questions that you already have, or ask for exam help, or just come and do your homework! We will do our best to help you in whatever way we can!

If you are interested in being a tutor and helping out your peers, feel free to come and help out whenever you can (don’t worry, this isn’t a binding commitment). We can always use additional tutors!

Resume and CV building with Katinka Csigi

Hi all,

Chemia will be holding a professional development workshop with the chemistry department’s very own Katinka Csigi! As the proposal development and hiring administer for the chemistry department, Katinka is a great resource for undergraduates who are seeking employment or further education after college. The workshop will focus on how to build a clear and effective resume or CV to show off all of our chemistry experience and expertise!

So stop by on Monday, March 30th at 5 pm to grab some pizza and refreshments and learn how to build your professional image!

“How To Use LinkedIn”

Hi all,

BUWIC will be hosting a “How To Use LinkedIn” event this Wednesday, February 25th at 5 pm in LSEB 103.

Brian Coughlin, President of Coughlin HR Consulting and adjunct faculty member at Dean College, will go through the ins and outs of LinkedIn and how to effectively set up your profile for landing your dream job. Bring your laptops and join BUWIC for this great event! Snacks and beverages will be provided.

Here are a few awesome events that are coming up soon:

October 22 (Wednesday) – Professor Ziegler will be coming to our Chemia meeting to discuss his research and getting into a research lab.

October 29 (Wednesday) – Halloween Party! Come for free food, drinks, and fun demos!

November 13 from 9am-11am (Wednesday) – Novartis Trip! We will be visiting Novartis for a tour and a talk from some of the people who work there. Please e-mail cneil@bu.edu if you are interested.

Let’s Get Down to Business…

You know what comes next, something about defeating the Huns. Or was it something about prepping your resumé to apply for all the fabulous chemistry jobs available to BU chemistry graduates? Either way, join Chemia this Wednesday 3/5 as we host Katinka Csigi, an expert in the department on just this sort of stuff. She will give a brief presentation and then we will have a discussion/ Q&A about all things chemistry jobs related.

All seniors are highly encouraged to attend, it will be a great opportunity to ask any questions you may have about the application process or about your resumé. Juniors and underclassmen feel free to attend as well, you may get a few tips you find useful in applying to internships!
